Terms of service
Make good work. Treat people well.
These terms set the ground rules for accounts, publishing, messaging, jobs and paid features on on.design.
Effective 20 August 2026
About these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and Charles Patterson, trading as on.design. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them. If you use on.design for a studio, company or other organisation, you confirm that you have authority to bind it.
You must be at least 18, or have permission from a parent or legal guardian who agrees to these terms. The service is currently invite-only, and an invitation does not guarantee permanent access.
Your account
Use accurate information, keep access to your email secure and tell us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised. You are responsible for activity carried out through your account. Do not sell, transfer or automate the use of an invitation or account.
Your work and licence to us
You keep ownership of content you submit. You confirm that you have the rights and permissions needed to publish it, including permission from clients, collaborators and people shown in the work.
You give Charles Patterson, trading as on.design, a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, adapt for technical display, distribute and show that content only as needed to operate, secure, improve and promote on.design. This includes generating thumbnails and showing public posts in feeds, profiles, search, previews and on.design marketing. The licence ends when the content is deleted, except for reasonable backup periods, content others have lawfully shared, or material we must retain for legal or safety reasons.
Community rules
You must not use on.design to:
- infringe intellectual-property, privacy, publicity or other rights;
- harass, threaten, impersonate, exploit or discriminate against people;
- publish unlawful, deceptive, sexually exploitative or deliberately harmful material;
- send spam, scrape personal data, manipulate engagement or operate unauthorised bots;
- upload malware, probe security, evade access controls or disrupt the service;
- misrepresent employment, compensation, authorship, clients, credentials or affiliations.
Report urgent safety or abuse concerns to abuse@on.design.
Moderation and availability
We may limit distribution, remove content, close listings, suspend features or restrict an account where reasonably necessary to enforce these terms, protect the community, comply with law or keep the service secure. Where appropriate, we will explain the decision and provide a route to challenge it.
We work to keep on.design available, but the service may change, pause or experience faults. Beta and experimental features may be withdrawn. We do not promise uninterrupted availability or that every feature will remain permanently free or unchanged.
Messages, jobs and third parties
Private messages are for genuine professional communication. Job listings are posted by their named publisher, not endorsed by on.design. Check the organisation, role and terms yourself before applying or sharing sensitive information. on.design is not an employer, recruiter or party to arrangements made between members.
Links and services operated by third parties have their own terms and privacy practices. We are not responsible for their content or availability.
Paid features
Prices, billing interval, taxes and included features are shown before checkout. Stripe processes payment. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel through the billing portal; access normally continues until the end of the paid period unless the checkout terms say otherwise.
Nothing in these terms limits mandatory consumer rights. If law gives you a cancellation, refund or remedy that cannot be excluded, it still applies. Except where required by law or stated at checkout, charges for a period already supplied or a job listing already published are not refundable.
Our intellectual property
The on.design name, visual identity, software and original service content belong to On Design or its licensors. These terms do not give you permission to copy the service, use our branding as your own, or reverse engineer or commercially exploit the platform beyond normal use.
Liability
We do not exclude liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or your mandatory consumer rights. Otherwise, to the fullest extent law permits, Charles Patterson, trading as on.design, is not liable for indirect or unforeseeable loss, loss of profit, business, opportunity, goodwill or data, or disputes between members.
If you use on.design for business purposes, our total liability arising from the service in any 12-month period is limited to the greater of £100 or the amount you paid us in that period. This business cap does not apply to consumers where it would restrict mandatory legal rights.
Ending access
You can stop using the service and request account deletion. We may suspend or end access for a serious or repeated breach, legal requirement, safety risk or threat to the service. Terms that logically continue after closure—including ownership, payment obligations, liability and dispute provisions—remain in effect.
Law and changes
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. If you are a consumer, you retain any mandatory protections and may bring a claim in the courts available to you under applicable law. Businesses agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
We may update these terms as the service or law changes. We will give reasonable notice of material changes. Continuing to use the service after the new terms take effect means you accept them; if you do not agree, you should stop using the service.
