Felt Not Heard is a founder-led audio design studio. Our work is inspired by founder Joe Johnson’s experience as a bassist and composer; work deeply rooted in musical tradition, research, philosophy, and process. The name Felt Not Heard originates from the foundational role of bass in an ensemble setting; an instrument rarely front and center, but essential to the whole. Bass is felt, not always heard, subtle and powerful. Since its founding in 2008, FNH has built a broad portfolio of clients across film, TV, tech, and fashion. Credits include award-winning brands and rebrands, live performance projects, music systems, and film scores. We don’t chase a signature style. We form audio territories using music history, cultural context, strategy, and philosophy. The heart of this approach is an improvisatory process that pushes ideas to their limits in order to find what the project wants to sound like.
